GoDaddy CEO Bob Parsons Kills An Elephant Video Posted: 01 Apr 2011 03:06 AM PDT The only thing worse than GoDaddy CEO Bob Parsons Killing an elephant, is posting a video about it… What an ASS! I had a domain with GoDaddy this morning. It was transferred after I saw this video… WARNING! This video is not for young children (unless of course you want to explain why the bad man made dumbo take a permanent nap). It’s totally up to you. The video of Bob Parsons killing the elephant that’s causing all the controversy:
PETA announced that they are transferring all of their domains to another broker (they have several hundred). PETA is a pretty extremist organization and I usually do not endorse them in any way, but I do agree with their stance on this one. I hope they make a stink. These pictures show why. How is Bob Parsons and others like him allowed to hunt and kill elephants?First off, the African elephant is listed as Endangered under the U.S. Endangered Species Act (ESA). It is also listed by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) as endangered as well. It is listed on Appendix I of the Convention on the Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora, except for certain countries (Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia) which were reclassified to Appendix II. Why were they reclassified? Maybe so obnoxiously wealthy individuals can spend millions of dollars each year to go and hunt “problem elephants”. Money is the sole motivation the governments in these impoverished nations reclassified the species. As a result of these reclassifications, elephants deemed dangerous (aka “problem elephants”) are allowed to be hunted. Not unlike Japanese whalers that commit horrendous acts under the guise of “scientific research”. The Japanese have been taking whale tissue samples and weighing their organs in the name of scientific research for years. So the hunt continues, and they can continue to sell the meat to market. Although the two hunts differ in several ways, I find them both equally obnoxious, crude, and harmful. So, what exactly is a problem elephant and why does Bob Parsons care?In simple terms it is an elephant that poses a threat directly to humans or to their way of life. They smash crops, act aggressively towards villages and it’s inhabitants, or kill livestock. But is that really the fault of the elephants? Absolutely not! But the fault doesn’t lie with the fringe villages either. Farmers migrate for the same reasons elephants do:: they simply don’t have enough space. But how can you compete with an animal the size of an elephant? I guess you import a few millionaires a year that want some PR, let them shoot an elephant causing problems because their habitat is shrinking, then pass out clothing branded with a company logo to the hungry villagers fighting over the meat. If you have a domain with GoDaddy, transfer it! Is that really what you want to see people doing with your hard earned money? Namecheap is actually losing money by offering transfers for $4.99. $1 of that goes directly to elephant conservation. Namecheap is far superior on many levels anyway. Transfer your domain and make your voice heard! http://su.pr/2FFw87 Don’t get me wrong, since the dawn of man we have been omnivorous. Subsistence hunting is one thing. Many people rely on the hunt to survive. I do not and cannot judge. It’s one thing to take a deer or turkey to feed your family… But an endangered species? Especially one of the most intelligent, caring, nurturing, charismatic, and dynamic species this planet has ever seen? You’re kidding yourself if you think Bob Parsons cares. I know it won’t happen, but I hope Bob Parsons, GoDaddy, and the brand suffer irreparable damage for this blatant PR tactic and horrendous taste in posting this video:: let alone hunting an endangered species on a technicality.
